Escher hails from a family of scholars and researchers and was expected to follow suit. After graduating in Thaumaturgy, he continued his research while working as a Studium tutor.He presented to the Forum that if the last Calamity was man-made then it is possible that someone can single-handedly cause a future Calamity and that steps should be taken to protect Sharlayan from that eventuality. When his proposal was rebuffed, he left Sharlayan to seek the knowledge he needed to prove it even if it had to be him.Everyone assumed he was conducting field research and carried on, unaware of the havoc he would wreak...

His mouth scar is from a shaving accident at 15. He refused to shave for a very, very long time until he met his ex-husband.
Strange is not his real surname; he chose it so nobody would recognize his family name and because people used to say, "He always was a strange one anyway."

A 2nd generation Sharlayan Au Ra, Ireul was born and bred in Old Sharlayan without any knowledge of her roots. Unlike her mother, Ireul has no aptitude for the Studium and works at her father's weapons shop, where she tests the stock and offers recommendations to customers.One day she overheard that Escher insulted her mother at a presentation. Instead of demanding an explanation Ireul grabbed a sword and pursued Escher, determined to redeem her mother's honour.

Ireul met Sirolimus when he visited her shop to buy a thaumaturge rod. He was pleasant, she asked him out, and they've been dating since.
She gets excited at the thought of two males having unresolved romantic tension and will imagine scandalous scenarios if left alone. She does try her best to hide it in public.

As per Gharl tradition, he brought soil from the Steppe to place in Old Sharlayan. He got into trouble when the soil carried a parasite that ate his landlord's fogweed.
He met Ireul when he visited her shop to buy a thaumaturge rod. They're currently dating, though Ireul is the dominant partner.
The Studium believes Sirolimus is smarter than Escher and could rise to Archon...if he had more confidence in himself.
